What is Sensorimotor Psychotherapy?
Sensorimotor Psychotherapy is a gentle, body-centered approach that helps you understand how stress, trauma, and difficult experiences may still be held in the body.
Sometimes we can understand something intellectually and still feel our body react as if the danger or distress is happening now. You may notice tension, numbness, a sense of shutting down, feeling on edge, or other automatic reactions that are hard to change through insight alone.
Sensorimotor Psychotherapy brings attention to these body-based responses with curiosity and compassion. By noticing sensations, movement, posture, and patterns in the nervous system, therapy can help you develop a greater sense of safety, choice, and connection in the present.
This approach can be especially helpful for trauma, attachment wounds, anxiety, and experiences that leave you feeling disconnected from yourself or your body. It can also be integrated with other approaches, including EMDR, IFS, mindfulness, and traditional talk therapy.
